YOUNG CHAMBER

Developing Minds for Developing Business

Young Chamber is a new concept offering a framework to the enterprise educational needs of 14 to 19 year olds. Developed and piloted by the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry the programme supports young people in building their confidence and developing their decision-making and collaboration skills.

The Young Chamber 'Ambition Statement' succinctly summarises the Young Chamber concept and what it sets out to achieve. This is to engage local businesses directly in the development of the mind sets and attitudes of young people aged 14 to 19 with a greater understanding of the workplace and future employment opportunities. This framework we see as benefiting the future prospects of both the business community and the young people who will become a part of that community.

A key objective of the Young Chamber project is to provide a management structure to the enterprise agenda in the school and beyond and to provide a vehicle for the voice of young people, on issues impacting upon the economic environment in which they live and which will link naturally into other young people initiatives such as Youth Parliament, Global Rock etc.

The Young Chamber initiative is inclusive in its nature and is designed to appeal to all students of all abilities and fosters the close involvement of young people and the business community. The recognisable Global Business Brand of the Chambers of Commerce makes employer engagement more effective and easier to manage.
