The other Round the Island race
Island Year 9 students are gearing up to compete in the ‘other’ round the island race next month.
The Young Chamber members are building model boats to race round an island shaped route in the basin of the Island Sailing Club on the afternoon of June 18, after the official race press conference.
The event is sponsored by J P Morgan Asset Management, the company which is the headline sponsor for the real Round the Island Race – the fourth largest sporting participation event in the UK, to be held the next day.
The model boat version of the race was first run last year, when students from Cowes High School designed and built four model boats. It was such a success that Young Chamber and Into the Blue joined forces with J P Morgan to open up the competition to students across the Island.
