The Isle Of Wight Chamber Of Commerce has teamed up with Community Action to encourage businesses to change the way that their employees travel to work. The Isle of Wight Council has secured funding from the government’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) and some of this money will be made available to Island businesses in the form of match-funded grants. The scheme is aimed at all sectors of the Island’s economy, with grants ranging from a minimum of £2,500, up to £47,000.  All grants must be match-funded by the employer.

If you have a project in mind which could support your staff to move away from single-occupancy car trips and make greater use of sustainable travel (car share, buses, cycling, walking) then this pot of match-funding is for you.  Examples could be:

  • Hiring a pool of bikes for a fixed period of time
  • Providing a range of courses (cycling proficiency/bike maintenance)
  • Providing free or reduced bus tickets for a limited time period
  • Purchasing specialist software to advertise car-share schemes
  • Part-fund a car-share co-ordinator

If you have a scheme in mind please contact Philippa Daley at Community Action IW on 01983 524058 orpdaley@actioniw.org.uk to see if it’s eligible and request an application form.

But don’t forget to get your skates on (or jump on a bike!) as the closing date for completed application forms is 5pm on Friday 18th September 2015.
