Tourism Task Force launched

Visit Isle Of Wight is reaching out to the tourism industry to create a “tourism task force” which will help to address a specific decline in visitor numbers. The DMO is looking to address the drop in VFR’s – people coming to stay with their family and friends on the Island. This section of the tourism market is a new area of focus for the organisation.

“As we begin our third season at the helm, we acknowledge that the VFR market in particular can have a huge economic impact on us,” Visit Isle Of Wight CEO David Thornton tells Island Business. “Our night time economy, tourist attractions, food and drink sector and transport benefit hugely from VFRs. The decline in numbers is affecting the industry across the UK, not just the Island, so it’s clearly a bigger and more complex issue. I think that if we create a group to focus on this issue and look at it from a different perspective we might come up with something. I’m keen to hear from anyone who would like to attend an initial workshop meeting with Visit Isle Of Wight at Osborne House before the end of April. Potential task force members should just drop me a line by email for now and we’ll be in touch to arrange an initial meeting to discuss the challenge and see what ideas people have.”
