The Isle of Wight Sports Foundation (formerly the Isle of Wight Sports and Recreation Council) is an independent charity that represents and supports all sports and recreational clubs on the Isle of Wight. The aim of the Foundation is to promote sport and physical activity on the Isle of Wight and to provide a voice that carries weight, be it on planning matters, provision and protection of facilities, car parking charges, ferry expenses or government/council legislation in so far as they affect sporting and recreational clubs on the Island. It is able to provide grants to member clubs and individuals for a wide variety of purposes provided they are seen to promote sport and physical activity on the Isle of Wight (for example: coaching and training). In addition the Foundation arranges the annual Isle of Wight Sports Achievement Awards ceremony each spring and all member clubs have the right to nominate candidates for these awards. This event, that has been going for more than 40 years, honours those young and old who have made an outstanding contribution to sport on the Isle of Wight and recognises the peaks of achievement and service in all sports and the wider the nominations the more truly representative they will be.
